The Binding: Excerpt #2

“It’s only a scratch, why did she collapse?” asks Tolan.  I look over at my brother thankful for once that he disobeyed my wishes to be alone with Lily.  I shake my head unsure.
“I don’t know for certain,” I reply.  “She passed out more at the sight of you, than from any wound that I can see.”
“Well, that’s not very flattering, especially when I’m better looking than you are,” Tolan says searching her face, “She is beautiful.  She doesn’t seem to have the height, but she has her mother’s coloring.  There’s no mistake that she’s Senestra’s daughter.  Her brother being here further confirms it.”
“Thanks to you he didn’t succeed in killing her.  I suppose Velesi owes you a debt, brother.”  I continue to look at the girl and the feeling of having a connection with her slowly nags at me.  This pisses me off.  I don’t want any connection to her.
“And you, you also owe me a debt.” says Tolan, breaking into my thoughts.  After a moment he adds quietly, “You know that Kalis was never meant to be in your future.”

    1. Hi Ang! It does seem to end suddenly, doesn't it, but actually the book is over 110,000 words! If I continued on, it would have been way to big and would seem to drag. I'm currently working on the 2nd book to the Binding and should have it out by end of this summer, early Fall.

By the way, thank you for stopping by and I am estatic that you enjoyed the book. Hang in there, it will be out before you know.

  4. this was an amazing book. L.Filloon, you are one of the few gifted writers i have had the pleasure of stumbling across. Though, it was by accident, i have become addicted to the series already. Is there a possibility that you could finish the book sooner than the end of summer?

    1. Hi Danielle!

I so agree...I wish I could go on for a long time with Tharin and Lily's story. The idea for the story is complete, I just need to get it written. Lots going on in Book 2 as it makes it way to its finale in Book 3. Very excited to get them both completed and out.

Thank you for taking a chance on The Binding and giving it a read. So glad that you enjoyed it. And thanks for the kind and encouraging words...you have no idea how that helps with my writing. :)

  8. Just finished reading and I can't stand the thought that Lily does not feel worthy of Tharin. I want her to feel loved and safe. I hate that Tharin never tells her how he is feeling, but expects it of her.
So many evil characters! Book #2 needs more loving moments between Tharin and Lily so she feels secure.
I know that Kalis is a spoiled brat and is not done with Tharin yet. You have moved to my top 10 authors list. I just retired as a reading teacher. I recognize all the different places in Utah and Nevada from my college days out west. Keep up the good work.

    1. Hi Darlene!

I hope there will be sweeter moments between Lily and Tharin! :) Kalis has a huge role to play, I can tell you that much and she's already done enough. And, she hasn't even met Lily yet! Yikes!

I currently live in Las Vegas, so I used the city as much as I could in their story. What's an adventure if you can't at least stop for a nap in an oak tree somewhere lost in Vegas, right?

Thank you for the kind words and the encouragement. It really does help me with finishing up the 2nd book! And thanks for giving it read. So happy you enjoyed it.

  11. Oh. My. Gosh. I just read the book and I screamed at the ending. I swear my family thinks I'm crazy now. XP I'm an avid reader and have read close to forty books in the past few months alone trying to get some ideas for a series that I am writing. No book that I have read so far has given me this many ideas and after reading I don't want to read anything else until I read more of this story. Its weird. Ive never had such a strong reaction to a book except the one that I am writing at the moment. I thought I was going to explode at the ending. Cant wait for the next one!!!!!

  14. I have to say, being told I have to wait to get the next book in a series is something I haven't had to experience in a while since I've gotten into the habit of starting series partway in. Haha. I will say this...I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I love writing. I'm only seventeen and I know that this is something that I want to do. Unfortunately, things and people happen and I let go of that love of writing that I had. Your book has helped me want to write again. I haven't had the pleasure of reading anything good as of late, so I was super excited when I got a good ways in to this one and was enjoying it. While some parts might have left something to be desired, I can scarcely say it bothered me in the slightest. All in all, this was an excellent read, and I thank you for breaking the cycle of boring and/or annoying books! Haha. Also, on a final note, I loved the little bit in your bio about receiving the pen for Christmas. Something about it...I don't know. I loved it. I'll hush now, return to my state of impatient waiting.

    1. Hi Emilyann -

Thank you so much for letting me know how much enjoyed The Binding. I can never hear enough of the joy my book has brought to many. However, I'm more excited that it has inspired you to continue writing. You know the best about writing? You can start writing at any point in your life...you just have to find inspiration from within and with all that's around you. I wish you the best and look forward to leaving you a comment on your future published work. :)

Working on book 2 and I should be able to complete it by the release date. Until then, good luck and best wishe!

My lack of patience has led me to think I should probably not starting a series until it's finished! Best of luck getting the next book out! Glad I am not the only one on here that will be not so patiently waiting! Thanks for the great read! Love having both points of view, i feel i really know them!!

Thank you for the kind and encouraging words. I am in the thick of things with Lily and Tharin at the moment in book 2, The Drifting. Can't wait to get it out to you, hopefully at another "cute-meet" place...like, you know, a bus station or something. :)

Thanks for giving the book a chance and enjoy it once you started reading.

I'm so happy to hear that The Binding caused such passion for reading. No worries, The Drifting is coming along great even though Lily and Tharin has found themselves in a pickle...and no brother, best friend or cousins around to help. I swear those two are going to give me gray hairs. :)
